Lunch at Fish & Co.

There is a lunch special going on right now at Fish & Co. The set lunch starts from $9.99++ and consists of a salad starter, drink, main course and a dessert. I ordered the grilled fish with coriander sauce.

The starter is coleslaw. There is raisins inside which adds sweetness. It tastes very rich in flavour. I like it.

Next is the main course. Usually there are two pieces of fish when you order a pan, how since the lunch special is cheaper, there is only one piece of fish, but it comes with a GENEROUS serving of mashed potato with cheese sauce. Oh my! The cheese sauce is heavenly! Oozy gooey goodness!

The standard of the grilled fish is what you would expect from Fish & Co., nothing less. It tastes slightly crispy, and the coriander sauce adds a little bit of oriental flavour to an otherwise very western meal.

To end the meal on a sweet note, they served up a chocolate mousse. It's tiny but adequate, considering the sinful caloric count of the main course. LOL!

Overall, I would rate this meal a 8. The price is fantastic for the generous portion of fish and mashed potato. Oh and don't forget, you can order a drink too. I ordered a passion fruit. I will definitely come back for more!

Do not know why, there is a sudden craving for Krispy Kreme Donuts. Too bad, they do not have a chain in Singapore.

It is a must for each trip to Tokyo. I will head toward this sign from Takashimaya Shinjuku.

Hotel recommendation for the budget traveler

Yesterday a colleague asked me where to stay in Japan for her coming trip. Of course, I suggested Tokoyo Inn (http://www.toyoko-inn.com/eng/). It seems that a lot of people are not aware of this chain hotel in Japan. So decided to do a short write up.

To me, hotel is just a place to sleep and refresh during a trip. I do not need one with a lot of facilities since I will be spending more of my time traveling around and not relaxing in the hotel room and enjoying the facilities, like swimming pool, a grand lobby, etc.

The cost of a single room for the outlet at Shinjuku is around 6,500 yen with tax (which is S$100 at an exchange rate of 0.016) per night. For a twin room, that would be about 9,300 yen (which is S$149) per night. Of course the room rates vary from area to area. For some chains that are nearer to the subway or JR station, the room rate will be slightly higher. They also provide free breakfast, and free internet access at their counter (but limited computers).

Photo of their single room that I stay in during my one of my Tokyo trips. yes, it is a super single bed in their single room. Nice right?

Lunch at Sakae Sushi

Took half day leave to get away from work today and met Z for lunch at Sakae Sushi at Wheelock Place and before going for a movie marathon of vampires suck and Love Cut at Vivo City.

I ordered a Sakae Gozen. This is my first time trying out this, normally I will order the Geisha Gozen from the Gozen menu. The serving of their Chicken Katsu is generous.

Z tried the curry sauce and he loves it. It reminded him of the curry katsu he ate in Coco House, a curry rice Chain outlet in Tokyo. The Gozen left my stomach full and there is no room for more food. Next time, I will try order their Sakae Gozen again and share with a friend, so my stomach has room for me to try other side dishes.

Z ordered salmon don with salmon sushi. Think he may have be a cat in his previous life to love raw salmon so much.

Another good reason to 多吃多吃 at Sakae Sushi is their promotion with Standard Chartered Bank that offers a 30% rebate in the form of a dinning voucher as well as a chance to win a pair of ticket to Japan or Hongkong if you spend more than S$50. :)
And today is the last day to enjoy the promotion.

I entered the draw, so wish me luck. I really need a pair of free ticket to Japan.

BAPE x Sanrio madness

It was saturday, and I was up pretty early. I knew of the BAPE x Sanrio launch at Mandarin Gallery, but was half hearted about going. I decided to take a bus there, and queue up if the queue was not too mad. I arrived at 10am and this was the view that greeted me:

Cute how they decorated the escalators for this launch.

The queue was actually quite ok, but when Nigo, Hello Kitty and Baby Milo made an appearance, the crowd went berserk. Look at how everyone just went out of their position in the queue and thronged forward to take pics.

I held my position in the queue, because I did not want to lose my position, and secondly, they are just people dressed as a cat and monkey :-p hehe!

Later on, they announced that they will only let 10 person into the shop at one time, and it will start only at 11am. We were all in for a long wait. :( However, I took a pic of the photo op wall as the queue advanced:

Yep, Nigo signed on it :D

Finally, at around 12.30pm, I was almost in the shop. By almost, I mean they let in 4 people, and I was the 5th. -_-"

I had to wait another 5 to 10 minutes before they let me in. By that time, even though there is a purchase limit of 2 items per person, they had ran out of size for the t-shirt I wanted. Well I selected the next item that I wanted, and it was another 15 minutes queue at the cashier for payment.

So what did I buy in the end? I bought myself a t-shirt, and I bought the Kitty/Milo handphone strap thing for my friend who could not make it since he needed to work. When I called again on Monday, all the items were sold out, except for two pair of jeans. Wow!
